Mission
Blue Crab Books is an independent publishing house dedicated to preserving literary heritage, promoting literacy, and providing professional writing, editing, and publishing services to government agencies, nonprofits, and individuals. We create carefully curated editions of classic, out‑of‑print, and historically significant works, making literature accessible, enjoyable and appreciated by today’s readers through beautifully crafted, affordable editions.
Editorial Philosophy
At Blue Crab Books, we believe that preserving literature requires thoughtful editorial care, historical authenticity, and a deep respect for the original text. Our editions are prepared using early printings and authoritative sources whenever possible, ensuring that each work remains faithful to the author’s voice and cultural context. We correct only clear printing or scanning errors, maintain historical integrity, and design each book with clarity, readability, and beauty in mind. Our editorial approach focuses on creating editions that feel welcoming and enjoyable to modern readers while preserving the character and heritage of the original work.
Government Services
In addition to our publishing work, Blue Crab Books provides professional writing, editing, documentation, and publication support to government agencies and prime contractors. With more than twenty‑five years of experience supporting CMS, HHS, NIH, DHS/U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Census Bureau, we deliver clear, accurate, compliance‑focused content aligned with federal standards and mission requirements.
Our micro‑purchase‑ready services include technical writing, SOP and policy development, proposal editing, Section 508 accessibility support, and publication‑ready formatting.
Blue Crab Books is a Woman‑Owned Small Business (WOSB), SAM.gov registered and active.
Nonprofit Partnerships
Blue Crab Books collaborates with nonprofits, museums, libraries, historical societies, and cultural organizations on projects that strengthen literacy, preserve cultural heritage, and support mission‑driven storytelling. We assist with grant collaboration, grant writing, heritage project development, cultural programming, and community storytelling initiatives. Our American Literary Heritage Collection supports nonprofit cultural work by recovering and reintroducing forgotten American authors, regional women writers, and historically significant texts. We welcome opportunities to partner with nonprofits whose missions align with literary preservation, cultural history, and community engagement.
