What is the Blue Crab Classic Book Club?
The Blue Crab Classic Book Club is a digital-first monthly reading experience for readers who want to discover and rediscover great works of classic literature in an easy, enjoyable way— without turning reading into an assignment.
Each month features a carefully selected classic, a beautifully prepared Blue Crab Books digital edition.
There are no tests, no homework, and no pressure to keep up. Read at your own pace and simply enjoy the book.
What do I receive each month?
Each month, members receive:
- The featured Book of the Month in EPUB and PDF
- A blog with background information, context, reflections, and reading questions
- Access to the monthly Book Club discussion on the Blue Crab Books website
Where do I access my Book Club materials?
When you join the Blue Crab Classic Book Club, you’ll create a password for your account during checkout. After your purchase is complete, Payhip will take you to your membership area, where you can access the current Book of the Month and Reader’s Companion.
You’ll also receive an email receipt with a link you can use to return to your account and log in later.
Each month’s Book Club materials will be grouped together in your membership area so they’re easy to find and download.
How long is each month’s book available?
The current Book of the Month and Reader’s Companion are available in the membership area during the month in which they are featured.
At the end of the month, those materials are removed and the next month’s selection takes their place.
Do I get to keep the books I download?
Yes. Once you download the EPUB and PDF the files are yours to keep and enjoy.
Month by month, you can build your own personal library of Blue Crab Books classics.
What happens if I join partway through the month?
You’ll receive access to the current month’s Book of the Month for the remainder of that month.
Previous months’ Book Club downloads are not automatically included with a new membership, so be sure to download the current selection while it is available.
Do I have to follow a reading schedule?
No. The Book Club is designed around reading at your own pace. Finish the book in a weekend, spread it across the month, or read whenever it fits naturally into your life.
The goal is to enjoy the book, not race to finish it.
Is there a discussion for each month’s book?
Yes. An optional moderated Book Club discussion is available each month on the Blue Crab Books website.
Readers can share thoughts about the book, respond to discussion questions, and join the conversation if they choose.
Where is the discussion for each month’s book?
Book Club discussions take place on the Blue Crab Books website, where comments are moderated before publication.
Do I have to participate in the discussion?
Not at all. Some readers enjoy discussing a book as much as reading it. Others prefer a quiet reading experience. Both are welcome.
Participation in the monthly discussion is completely optional.
Can nonmembers participate in the website discussion?
Yes. The monthly discussion on the Blue Crab Books website is public, so other readers may join the conversation as well. However, they will not receive the Member’s blog post with more details about the book.
Do you offer memberships for organizations?
Yes. Blue Crab Books offers Organization Membership options for libraries, schools, nonprofits, senior communities, and other organizations that want to offer a guided classic-reading experience to their readers.
Each month includes the featured Book of the Month and Reader’s Companion. The Reader’s Companion provides background context, reflections, and discussion questions that organizations can use for book discussions, reading programs, facilitated conversations, enrichment activities, and other literary programming.
Organization Memberships are designed to make it easier to offer a ready-made reading program without having to develop discussion materials from scratch.

What is the difference between the monthly and yearly memberships?
Both plans include the same Book Club experience. However, the yearly membership saves you money.
Monthly Membership — $7.99 per month
Pay month by month and cancel whenever you choose.
Yearly Membership — $72 per year
Enjoy 12 months of the Book Club for the equivalent of $6 per month.
Can I cancel my membership?
Yes. You may cancel your membership at any time.
Cancellation stops future membership charges. Any Book Club files you previously downloaded remain yours to keep.
What devices can I use to read the books?
The EPUB edition can be opened in most ebook-reading apps and on compatible ereaders.
The PDF edition can be read on computers, tablets, and many mobile devices.
Having both formats gives you the flexibility to choose the reading experience you prefer.
How do I read my Book Club ebook on Kindle, Kobo, or another ereader?
The Book of the Month is provided in EPUB format, which can be read on most ereaders and reading apps.
For Kindle, you can send the EPUB file to your Kindle library using Amazon’s Send to Kindle feature. Once added, the book will appear in your Kindle library and can be read on a Kindle device or in the Kindle app.
For Kobo, you can add the EPUB file to your Kobo device or compatible Kobo app using Kobo’s supported file-transfer methods.
You can also open EPUB files in many other ebook apps on tablets, phones, and computers.
If you prefer, the Book Club also includes a PDF edition, which can be read on most computers, tablets, and mobile devices.
